01 — Introduction

Who I Am

I am Victor de Almeida. A writer, filmmaker, and producer working across books, cinema and other ways of storytelling. I have always been drawn to the same handful of questions, however the medium changes: what do people hide? what do they survive? And what's left of them once the world around them stops holding still. I do not choose one form and stay there. A novel can hold a scope a film cannot afford; a film can hold a silence a page cannot. I move between them because the story decides which shape it needs, not the other way round. That instinct shows up in two forms: the page, and the screen.

Writers write, even when they are not writing

What I Do

Author

As an author, I write across fantasy, crime, and psychological fiction. My stories explore the complexities of human nature through morally driven characters, immersive worlds and high-stakes narratives where every choice has lasting consequences. My debut novel, The Loch Linnhe Murders, marked the beginning of my publishing journey, with several new works currently in development, including the follow ups to Dreamfall, Birth of Chaos and the aforementioned Loch Linnhe Murders. Whether set in imagined realms or grounded in contemporary Britain, my fiction combines cinematic storytelling with emotional depth, inviting readers to laugh, cry, and above all... think.

Filmmaker & Producer

In my facet as a filmmaker, I am driven by emotionally complex characters and a cinematic approach to visual storytelling. Beginning in 2016, with Cain, my work has gone on to screen internationally, earning multiple awards and festival selections, with credits including The Bear, Persephone, Scrap of Paper and The Ashes You Leave Behind. Alongside developing new film projects, I am committed to championing emerging filmmakers through the Phoenix Rising International Film Festival as well as its adjoining film fund.

The plan was always to not be a planet, the plan was to be the sun around which others orbit

03 — The Platform

PhoenixWorks Media Group

The wider platform behind the work.

Founded in 2016 as PhoenixWorks Films by Victor de Almeida and a group of collaborators, PhoenixWorks began as an independent production company dedicated to telling bold, character-driven stories. By 2022, the company had produced seven short films before helping to establish the [Phoenix Rising International Film Festival] (https://www.priff.co.uk) (PRIFF UK) alongside Ewa Habdas. In 2024, the business evolved into PhoenixWorks Media Group, bringing together its growing portfolio under one umbrella, including [PhoenixWorks Films] (https://phoenixworksfilms.wixsite.com/phoenixworks), Seal Street Books and PRIFF UK. With storytelling at its heart, PhoenixWorks Media Group is building towards a long-term vision of becoming a multi-media enterprise, developing original content, creative ventures and platforms that champion artists across film, publishing and beyond.
